Experience the northern part of the Gudenåen – nature, rivers, lakes and attractions
The northern stretch of the Gudenåen offers an unforgettable experience with beautiful river courses, idyllic lakes and magnificent scenery. Surrounded by majestic trees and lush vegetation, this part of the Gudenåen gives you a unique chance to enjoy nature’s peace and beauty up close.
On the route between Klostermølle and Randers, you can paddle through narrow river sections and larger lakes while passing a wide range of attractions. There are plenty of places to pull in to explore the area’s nature or visit the charming towns along the way.
The Silkeborg Lakes and the Lake Highlands – a natural highlight
The northern part of the Gudenåen includes the famous Silkeborg Lakes, located in the scenic Lake Highlands. Here you’ll find popular destinations such as Himmelbjerget, Slåensø, the Paradise Islands and the historic Klüwers Canal, which takes you to Avnsø/Brillerne.
There are many and varied accommodation options around the Silkeborg Lakes. Whether you want basic tent sites, modern camping facilities, cosy hostels or comfortable hotels, you’ll find it all here. The area is ideal for both short and longer canoe trips, where you can combine nature, activities and relaxation.
Day trips and experiences from Silkeborg Harbor
If you’re looking for a day trip, Silkeborg Harbor is an ideal starting point. From here you can head out onto the Silkeborg Lakes and enjoy a day full of nature experiences. After a wonderful day on the water, you can finish back at the harbor. Alternatively, you can paddle north and end your trip at, for example, Kongensbro Teltplads – a perfect route for an experience-packed day. It also makes great sense to start from Ry and finish your trip in Silkeborg, as you’ll paddle past Himmelbjerget, Slåensø, the Paradise Islands and Avnsø.

At Tørring Kanoudlejning, we offer carefully tailored package deals that make it easy to combine a canoe trip on the Gudenåen with great accommodation options. Whether you’re travelling as a family or looking for an authentic nature experience, we have a package that suits you.
Family packages – for an easy and convenient canoe trip
Our family packages are tailored for families, families with young children, and groups of friends who plan their trip in advance. You’ll stay at selected campsites or tent sites chosen by you, with tents already pitched and ready on arrival. Each tent is equipped with 4 camp beds, but you can book up to 5 people per tent, as long as you remember to bring an extra sleeping mat for the 5th person. The tents are located at:
- Åstedbro Teltplads
- Vestbirk Camping
- Gammel Rye Teltplads
- Holmens Camping
The tents are equipped with camp beds, so you don’t have to pitch a tent and can focus on enjoying the trip. Just bring your own sleeping bag and any other necessary gear. The campsites offer family-friendly facilities and plenty of space for play and relaxation. The tent sites are more basic, but always with proper toilet facilities. The price includes accommodation at the chosen site, so it’s an all-in-one package.
Pioneer packages – the ultimate nature experience
Dreaming of being right in the heart of nature? Our pioneer packages let you stay at basic tent sites along the Gudenåen. A spacious 4-person igloo tent is included in the price, so you can experience the Gudenåen’s magical surroundings up close. This package is for those who want an authentic, nature-focused experience. You decide where to stay, but we recommend the basic tent sites, some of which are free and others cost up to DKK 50 per person per night. The accommodation fee is not included in the price.
