The Pioneer packages are for those of you who are looking for challenges and exciting experiences in nature - whether you're an experienced canoeist or just looking for something new. Not only will you get your adrenaline pumping, but you'll also have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful and unique nature that Gudenåen and its surroundings offer. Fresh air fills your lungs and after the day's hardships, you can look forward to the satisfying feeling of tiredness in your body.
Tour duration andaccommodation
Our Pioneer Packages are 2, 3, 4 or 5 days long and you'll stay in the 4-person igloo tents provided. The tents are handed out with the canoe on the start day, and when your adventure is over, you take the tent home as part of the package.
We recommend primitive campsites along Gudenåen where you choose where you want to spend the night. The campsites allow you to enjoy the tranquility and nature close to the river. However, it's entirely up to you whether you want to use the primitive campsites or if you prefer a campsite with more facilities. Primitive campsites typically cost between DKK 40-50 per night, while some sites are free. If you'd rather use a campsite, you can also find several good options along the route.
Flexibility and freedom
With the Pioneer Packages, you decide the route and pace yourself. You're responsible for pitching your tent each night and you can plan the trip to suit your needs and wishes. Two-day canoe adventure on Gudenåen - a guide to nature experiences and fun
Day 1: From Tørring to Åstedbro - meandering rivers and tranquility in nature
The tour starts in Tørring, where you have a two-hour sail to the beautiful area of Verdens Ende. This landing site offers table/bench sets and a bird tower where you can enjoy the view of the area. There are no toilet facilities, but it's a great place to take a short break and enjoy nature.
After Verdens Ende you continue on one of Gudenåen's most winding stretches. This part of the river between Tørring and Åle takes you through a flat wetland with reed forests and many small tributary streams. After an hour of sailing, you'll arrive at the Åle Teltpladswhich is equipped with a toilet and tables/benches - a great place to take a lunch break and stretch your legs.
After another hour of sailing, you'll arrive in Åstedbro Teltpladswhere you set up camp for the night. Here you'll find facilities such as a toilet and table/bench set as well as the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal at Åstedbro Grillen, which is close to the campsite.
Day 2: From Åstedbro to Vestbirk Camping - nature experiences and activities
On day two, even more nature experiences await along the Gudenå River. As you sail on from Åstedbro, you'll quickly experience the peace and quiet that only the Gudenåen surroundings can offer. After 2 hours of sailing you will arrive Gudenå Camping in Brestenbro. Here you can take a break in the cozy café area and enjoy a cup of coffee or a light refreshment. For those with the time and inclination, the campsite's fun and challenging miniature golf course is an obvious choice - an activity that creates both laughter and competition.
After Brestenbro, the river becomes wider and deeper, making the trip extra comfortable. Soon you'll reach Bredvad Mølle, where there is a rest area with toilets. To find the site, turn right just before Bredvad Bridge. Once you've passed under the bridge, sail on through Bredvad Lake, then keep right and you'll arrive at Vestbirk Camping.
Vestbirk Camping is not just a place to end your trip, but an opportunity to enjoy the last of the day. In the green surroundings, you can satisfy your hunger in the campsite's cozy grill bar or say hello to their cuddly goats - an experience that children will especially love. Remember that the canoe must be returned no later than 16:00.

Day 1: From Tørring to Voervadsbro - experience the beauty of the Gudenåen
From your start in Tørring, the tour begins on the Gudenåen, where you quickly get away from civilization and into the tranquility of nature. The first stop on the route is Gudenå Camping in Brestenbro. Here you can take a break, enjoy their cozy café area and try out their wonderful mini golf course - a fun and different activity in the middle of the tour.
After Brestenbro, the river widens and the water deepens. At Bredvadmølle you'll find a rest area with a toilet, which is located on the right just before Bredvad Bridge. Shortly after sailing under the bridge, you'll reach Bredvad Lake, which you sail through. Then keep to the right and you will arrive at Vestbirk Camping.
Vestbirk Camping is not just a stop on the route - it's a great opportunity for a short break. Here you can stock up on provisions and satisfy your hunger in their cozy grill bar. The campsite offers great facilities and with its location close to the river, it's an ideal place to enjoy a break.
After Vestbirk Camping, the tour continues through one of the most beautiful stretches of Gudenåen. Keep right as you enter the small canal that leads you through the upper part of Naldal Lake and into Vestbirk Lake. From here you continue on to Vestbirk Hydroelectric Power Station, which is an exciting stop with history and beautiful nature. At the power plant, the canoe must be carried across with canoe carts.
When you arrive at Voervadsbro Teltplads, you'll set up camp for the night. Don't miss a visit to Det Lille Røgeri, located just a 5-minute walk from the campsite. Det Lille Røgeri offers exquisite smoked products and delicacies, ready-made dishes and food to go. Book well in advance so you can enjoy a picnic on the campsite. Day 2: From Voervadsbro to Ry - an ending with magnificent nature
On day two, one of the most beautiful stretches of the Gudenå River awaits. From Voervadsbro you have about 1.5 hours sailing to Klostermøllewhere the river winds through jungle-like vegetation and narrow passages. Remember to stay in the stream channel to avoid getting stuck.
At Klostermølle Teltplads, the canoes must be pulled ashore and carried by canoe carts. Klostermølle is full of history and activities - here you can see an old drying barn, an exhibition about the history of the area and a bird tower with an impressive view of Mossø. You can also take the trail to Sukkertoppen, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape from 108 meters above sea level.
The tour continues towards Gammel Rye and Emborg Browhere there are rest areas with toilets and tables/benches. To get to Ry, you must sail into Birksø via a canal, which requires a short portage. At Ry you have the option of ending the trip at Ry Bådhavn, Roklubben or Skimminghøj Teltplads, where the canoe must be returned by 16:00.

Three-day canoe adventure on the Gudenåen - experience nature, history and cozy stops along the way
Day 1: From Ry to De Små Fisk Teltplads - Himmelbjerget and the pearls of Julsø
Your tour starts shortly after Ry, where you sail past the protected Alling Vest Teltplads, a beautiful nature area worth enjoying from the waterside.
From here the tour continues through Rosvig and out into Julsø. You can take a detour to Himmelbjerget, where you can dock at Hotel Julsø. Remember to pull the canoe up either to the left of the ferries at bridge 51 or all the way to the right at the small sandy beach close to Hjejlen and the ferry berths.
After Himmelbjerget you pass Møgelø, the largest island on Julsø, on your right. The island, which means "Big Island," impresses with its size and natural beauty. As you approach Svejbæksnævringen, you have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at one of the area's eateries such as Ålekroen, Ludvigslyst or Skyttehusets Café - remember to check the opening hours.
Further into Borresø you can take a detour to Slåensø, one of Denmark's cleanest lakes. Here the canoe must be pulled up at the bottom of bridge 30, after which a short walk takes you to the lake. If time permits, a trip to Paradisøerne, located to the left in Borresø, is also a great option.
The journey continues through Sejssnævringen and into Brassø, where you arrive at De Små Fisk Teltplads. The campsite is located on the right side and is a great place to camp for the night. A short walk brings you to Sejs, where there are shopping and places to eat. The site has a bathing area and is ideal for relaxing or playing ball games in scenic surroundings.
Day 2: From De Små Fisk Teltplads to Sminge Teltplads - Klüvers Kanal and Silkeborg's charm
Start the day by sailing through Klüvers Kanal, a narrow, idyllic passage where the branches and leaves of the trees form a natural roof over the canoe. You'll then reach the wooded Avnsø, also known as "The Glasses" due to the shape of the lake, which resembles a pair of old-fashioned nose glasses.
The tour continues towards Silkeborg via Remstrup Å, a 2.5 km long stretch that takes you to Silkeborg Harbor. Here you can take a break, stock up on provisions and explore the cozy town center with restaurants and shopping opportunities. From the harbor you sail past the Paper Factory and out into Silkeborg Langsø, where the river narrows.
Just before Resenbro you'll pass a rest area with toilets on the left, and after about 2.5 hours you'll reach Sminge Lake, one of the best birdwatching locations along the Gudenåen river. At the end of the lake is Sminge Teltplads, a protected and intimate nature site. The site is ideal for relaxing, and it's a great place to visit the nearby Svostrup Kroa historic barge inn, which is about 800 meters away via Trækstien.
Day 3: From Sminge to Ans - Kongensbro and Høj Stene
From Sminge you continue towards Tvilum Church, which is a short walk from a jetty. Here there is a toilet and a rest area that invites you to take a break.
After Tvilum Church, sail towards Kongensbro, where you have several options for lunch. Enjoy your packed lunch at Kongensbro Teltplads or treat yourself to a delicious lunch at Kongensbro Kro, located on the opposite side of the river.
1.5 km after Kongensbro on the right-hand side you'll find Høj Stene, one of Northern Europe's largest Iron Age burial monuments. This impressive historical site is an ideal stop to experience an important part of Denmark's cultural heritage.
After Høj Stene, the tour continues on Lake Tange Sø, Denmark's largest artificial lake. At Tangeværket / Energimuseet, the canoe will be transferred by canoe carts. The museum is an exciting stop for the whole family where you can learn more about the history of hydropower.
When approaching Ans, sail under the bridge and keep left. The canoe must be returned no later than 16:00 at Ans Teltplads, which is located on the left side after a small island in the middle of Tange Sø.

Day 2 starts with you sailing towards Gudenå Camping Brestenbro. Here you'll find a cozy café area where you can take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee or a light lunch. The campsite also offers a fun miniature golf course, which is ideal for those who want an activity along the way.
After Brestenbro, the river becomes wider and deeper. When you reach Bredvadmølle, you'll find a rest area with a toilet. The site is on the right just before Bredvad Bridge. Shortly after the bridge, sail through Bredvad Lake, then keep right and arrive at Bredvadmølle. Vestbirk Camping. Here you can stock up and enjoy a meal in their grill bar, surrounded by green and tranquil surroundings.
The trip continues through Naldal Lake and into Vestbirk Lake via a narrow canal. From here you head towards Vestbirk Hydroelectric Power Station, where the canoe must be carried across with canoe carts. The hydropower plant is an exciting place where you can experience the technical and historical importance of the area.
When you reach Voervadsbro Teltplads, you'll set up camp for the night. Don't miss out on a visit to The Little Smokehouse, located just a five-minute walk from the campsite. The smokehouse offers exquisite smoked products, Italian specialties and homemade delicacies such as fish cakes and smoked trout. Day 3: From Voervadsbro to Ry - historical sights and nature experiences
Day 3 starts with approx. 1.5 hours sailing to Klostermølle. This stretch is known for its beautiful and varied nature, where the river winds through jungle-like vegetation, narrow passages and wide rapids. It's important to stay in the channel so that the canoe doesn't get stuck.
At Klostermølle Teltplads, the canoes must be pulled up on land and you can use the designated canoe carts to carry them over. Klostermølle is a historical gem where you can experience an old drying barn, an exhibition about the history of the area and a bird tower with a beautiful view of Mossø. From Klostermølle you can also take the trail up to Sukkertoppen, which at 108 meters offers a magnificent view of the landscape.
After Klostermølle the tour continues through the beautiful landscape towards Gammel Rye and Emborg Browhere there are rest areas with toilets and tables/benches. Day 1: Beautiful surroundings and the majesty of Himmelbjerg
Your adventure begins shortly after Ry, where you pass the protected Alling Vest Teltplads, one of Gudenåen's most scenic areas.
From here the tour continues through Rosvig and out into Julsø. You can take a detour to Himmelbjerget, where you can dock at Hotel Julsø. Remember to pull the canoe up to the left of the ferries at bridge 51 or at the small sandy beach to the right of Hjejlen and the ferry berths.

Day 2: Klüvers Kanal and the charm of Silkeborg
Start the day by sailing through Klüvers Kanal, a narrow and idyllic passage where the trees form a natural tunnel over the water. The tour continues into Avnsø, also known as "The Glasses" due to its shape.
On your way to Silkeborg, you sail along the Remstrup River, which leads you to Silkeborg Harbor. Here you can take a break, buy provisions and explore the cozy city center with shopping and restaurants. After Silkeborg Harbor, the tour continues past the Paper Factory and out into Silkeborg Langsø, where you again follow the river's current towards Sminge Sø.
At Sminge Lake you'll find Sminge Teltplads, a protected and intimate nature site where you can camp for the night. You can also take a detour to Svostrup Kro, a historic barge inn, which is only 800 meters away via Trækstien.
Day 3: Tvilum Church, Høj Stene and Kongensbro
After Svostrup Kro you arrive at Tvilum Church, which is a short walk from a jetty. Here you'll find toilets and a rest area - a perfect place for a break.
When you reach Kongensbro, you will find Kongensbro Teltplads on your right and Kongensbro Kro on your left, just before the big bridge. Here you can enjoy your own packed lunch or visit the inn and treat yourself to a meal in historic surroundings.
Høj Stene, one of Northern Europe's largest Iron Age burial monuments, is located 1.5 km after Kongensbro on the right side of the river. This impressive cultural-historical site is a must-see on the tour, where you can experience an important part of Denmark's past.
You will then sail on to Tange Sø, Denmark's largest artificial lake. As you approach Ans, sail under the bridge and keep slightly to the left. Then sail left around the small island in the middle of the lake and on your left you will arrive at Ans Teltpladswhere you camp for the night. Ans offers good shopping and dining options.
Day 4: Tange Lake and the end of the tour
After about 30 minutes of sailing, you reach Tange Søbad, where you can take a dip and take a break. The tour continues to Tangeværket, where the canoe will be pulled over land using canoe carts.
Continuing towards Bjerringbro, you'll pass several rest stops before reaching the town, where you'll find shopping and eateries. Your trip ends at Ulstrup / Dannebrogpladsen, where the canoe must be returned no later than 16:00.

On day two you sail towards Gudenå Camping Brestenbro. Here you can take a break at the cozy café area and enjoy a cup of coffee or a light lunch. The campsite also offers a fun mini golf course, perfect for a little competition along the way.
Further along the route, the river becomes deeper and wider. You reach Bredvadmølle, where there is a rest area with a toilet. From here you sail through Bredvad Lake, keep right and arrive at Vestbirk Campingwhere you can stock up and enjoy a meal in their grill bar.
The trip continues towards Voervadsbro via Naldal Lake and Vestbirk Lake, which are connected by narrow canals. At Vestbirk Hydroelectric Power Station, the canoe must be carried across with canoe carts.

In Ry you can take a break, stock up on provisions and explore the town before continuing towards Alling Vest Teltplads. The site is protected and offers unique nature and hiking opportunities. Remember to bring supplies as there are no shopping facilities at the campsite.
Day 4: From Alling Vest to Silkeborg - Himmelbjerget and the pearls of Julsø
On the last day you sail through Rosvig and out into Julsø, where a detour to Himmelbjerget is obvious. Most people choose to dock at Hotel Julsø, where the Hjejlen and ferries also dock. Remember to pull your canoe up to the left of the tour boats at bridge 51 or at the small sandy beach to the right of Hjejlen.
After Himmelbjerget, you pass Møgelø, the largest island on Julsø, and sail through Svejbæksnævringen, where lunch can be enjoyed at Ålekroen, Ludvigslyst or the Skyttehuset Café.
Continuing through Borresø, you'll find Slåensø, one of Denmark's cleanest freshwater lakes, and Paradisøerne, both worth a visit. The tour continues through Sejssnævringen to Brassø. Here you'll sail through Klüvers Kanal, a narrow and idyllic canal with trees that almost form a roof over the canoe.
The last part of the trip goes via Remstrup Å to Silkeborg Harbor, where your canoe adventure ends. Silkeborg Harbour is close to the city center, and it's a great place to take a stroll in the cozy town center with shopping, dining and shopping opportunities before you return home.

Five-day canoe adventure on Gudenåen - From Ry to Langå with nature, history and cozy stops
Day 1: From Ry to De Små Fisk Teltplads - Himmelbjerget and the treasures of Julsø
Your canoe adventure starts shortly after Ry, where you sail past the protected Alling Vest Teltplads - a beautiful and quiet nature area.
The trip then continues through Rosvig and out into Julsø, where a detour to Himmelbjerget is an obvious choice. Moor at Hotel Julsø and remember to pull the canoe up to the left of the ferries at bridge 51 or to the right at the small sandy beach close to Hjejlen and the ferry berths.
Further on you will pass Møgelø, the largest island on Julsø, on your right. The island's name means "Big Island" and is a beautiful part of the lake's landscape. When you reach Svejbæksnævringen, consider enjoying lunch at Ålekroen, Ludvigslyst or Skyttehuset's Café - remember to check the opening hours.
Further into Borresø you can take a detour to Slåensø, one of Denmark's cleanest lakes, which is on the left. The canoe must be pulled up at bridge 30 and a short walk will take you to the lake. If time permits, a trip to Paradisøerne, to the left, is also a good idea.
The journey continues through Sejssnævringen and into Brassø, where you arrive at De Små Fisk Teltplads. The site offers a bathing area and ball field, and a short walk takes you to Sejs, where there are shopping and dining options.
Day 2: From De Små Fisk Teltplads to Sminge Teltplads - Klüvers Kanal and the charm of Silkeborg
Start the day by sailing through Klüvers Kanal, a narrow and idyllic passage where the trees form a green roof over the canoe. After the canal you'll come to Avnsø, also known as "The Glasses" because of its shape.
Continue towards Silkeborg along the Remstrup River and reach Silkeborg Harbor. Take a break here, stock up on provisions and explore the cozy city center with restaurants and shopping opportunities. Continue past Papirfabrikken and out into Silkeborg Langsø, where the river narrows again.
After about 2.5 hours you'll reach Sminge Lake, one of the best birdwatching spots along the Gudenåen river. At the end of the lake you'll find Sminge Teltplads, a protected and intimate site where you can camp for the night. It is obvious to visit the nearby Svostrup Krowhich is 800 meters away via Trækstien.
Day 3: From Sminge to Ans - Tvilum Church, Høj Stene and Kongensbro
On day three you pass Tvilum Church, which is a short walk from a jetty. Here you'll find a rest area and toilet - a perfect place to take a break.
The tour continues to Kongensbro Teltplads, where you can enjoy a packed lunch or treat yourself to a delicious lunch at the cozy Kongensbro Kro, located on the opposite side of the river.
1.5 km after Kongensbro, you'll pass Høj Stene, one of Northern Europe's largest Iron Age burial monuments. It's a historical must-see where you can experience an important part of Denmark's cultural heritage.
Then you sail on to Tange Lake, Denmark's largest artificial lake, and set up camp for the night at Ans Teltplads. In Ans there are good shopping and dining options.
Day 4: From Ans to Kjællinghøl - Tangeværket / Energimuseet
After about 30 minutes of sailing you reach Tange Søbad, where you can take a dip and take a break. At the end of the lake you'll find Tangeværket, where the canoe must be carried across with canoe carts. Here you can also visit the Energy Museum, which is free for children up to the age of 17.
After Tangeværket, you have about an hour's sail to Bjerringbro, where you can stock up and enjoy a meal. From here, you'll reach Kjællinghøl Teltplads, a primitive but cozy campsite where you'll set up camp for the night.
Day 5: From Kjællinghøl to Langå - end of the adventure
On the last day of the trip, you pass Busbjerg Rasteplads, located just before Bamsebo Camping. Here there is a toilet and tables/benches.
When you arrive in Ulstrup, you'll see Dannebrogpladsen on your right after the bridge. The large green area has a nature playground and is a great place to take a break.
The tour ends at Langå Camping, which is located just before Langå Bådlaug. Here you pull the canoe onto land and place it on the gravel area 10 meters from the water. The canoe must be returned no later than 16:00.

Five days canoe adventure on Gudenåen - From Tørring to Silkeborg
Day 1: From Tørring to Åstedbro - the meandering beginning of Gudenåen
Your tour starts in Tørring, where you have a two-hour sail to Verdens Ende, a beautiful landing site with tables/benches and a bird tower, but no toilet. From here, the trip continues through the most winding stretch of the Gudenå, taking you through wetlands with reed forests and tributary streams. After an hour of sailing you reach Åle Teltpladswhere there is a toilet and tables/benches - an ideal place to take a break.
Another hour of sailing brings you to Åstedbro Teltpladswhere you'll set up camp for the night. The campsite offers toilets and tables/benches, and you can enjoy a meal at Åstedbro Grillen, which is close by.
Day 2: From Åstedbro to Voervadsbro - Beautiful nature and delicious delicacies
The day starts with a boat trip to Gudenå Camping in Brestenbro, where you can take a break at their café area and possibly try your hand at the mini golf course.
The tour continues past Bredvadmølle, where there is a rest area with a toilet on the right before Bredvad Bridge. Then you sail through Bredvad Lake, keep to the right and arrive at Vestbirk Camping, which offers provisions and food in their cozy grill bar.
On the stretch towards Voervadsbro you sail through Naldal Lake, Vestbirk Lake and on through narrow canals to Vestbirk Hydroelectric Power Station, where the canoe must be carried across with canoe carts.
By Voervadsbro Teltplads you set up camp for the night. Don't miss a visit to The Little Smokehouse, which is a five-minute walk from the campsite. The smokehouse offers delicacies such as smoked trout, homemade fish cakes and Italian specialties. Book in advance on +75 78 28 28 85 or via their website www.detlillerøgeri.dk. If you need groceries or breakfast, this can be ordered from Sdr. Vissing Torvehal no later than 16:00 the day before.
Day 3: From Voervadsbro to Alling Vest Teltplads - History and indulgences
From Voervadsbro you head towards Klostermølle, which is reached after about 1.5 hours of sailing through jungle-like vegetation and narrow passages. At Klostermølle Teltplads, the canoe must be carried over with canoe carts. Here you can experience the story of the monks from the 13th century, visit a drying barn, see an exhibition and take the trail to Sukkertoppen with an impressive view of Mossø.
From Klostermølle the river winds beautifully through the landscape towards Gammel Rye and Emborg Browhere there are rest areas with toilets and tables/benches. From here you sail on towards Ry. To cross Birksø, you must use a canal with a short crossing. At Ry Bådhavn you can stock up on provisions and take a break.
End the day at Alling Vest Teltplads, a protected and scenic area with hiking opportunities. Make sure you have stocked up in Ry, as there are no shopping facilities at the campsite.
Day 4: From Alling Vest to De Små Fisk Teltplads - Himmelbjerget and the pearls of Julsø
From Alling Vest you sail through Rosvig and out into Julsø, where a detour to Himmelbjerget is ideal. Moor at Hotel Julsø and remember to pull the canoe up to the left of the ferries at bridge 51 or to the right at Hjejlen and the ferries' moorings.
After Himmelbjerget you pass Møgelø and sail through Svejbæksnævringen, where you can have lunch at Ålekroen, Ludvigslyst or the Skyttehuset Café.
Continuing through Borresø, you'll find Slåensø to the left - one of Denmark's cleanest freshwater lakes. If time permits, you can also visit the Paradise Lakes. The tour continues through Sejssnævringen to Brassø, where you set up camp at De Små Fisk Teltplads. Day 5: From De Små Fisk to Silkeborg - Klüvers Kanal and the end of the tour
The last day offers a trip through Klüvers Kanal, a narrow and idyllic passage, and further into Avnsø, also known as "The Glasses".
You'll then sail towards Silkeborg along the Remstrup River, which leads to Silkeborg Harbor. This is where the tour ends, but it's a good idea to take a walk in Silkeborg's cozy city center with shopping, shopping opportunities and eateries before returning home.
